1 E QUANDO o Senhor entendeu que os fariseus tinham ouvido que Jesus fazia e baptizava mais discípulos do que João
2 (Ainda que Jesus mesmo não baptizava, mas os seus discípulos).
3 Deixou a Judéia, e foi outra vez para a Galiléia.
4 E era-lhe necessário passar por Samaria.
5 Foi pois a uma cidade, de Samaria, chamada Sicar, junto da herdade que Jacob tinha dado a seu filho José.
6 E estava ali a fonte de Jacob, Jesus, pois, cansado do caminho assentou-se assim junto da fonte. Era isto quase à hora sexta.
7 Veio uma mulher de Samaria tirar água, disse-lhe Jesus: Dá-me de beber.
8 Porque os seus discípulos tinham ido à cidade comprar comida.
9 Disse-lhe pois a mulher samaritana: Como, sendo tu judeu, me pedes de beber a mim, que sou mulher samaritana? (porque os judeus não se comunicam com os samaritanos).
10 Jesus respondeu, e disse-lhe: Se tu conheceras o dom de Deus, e quem é o que te diz: Dá-me de beber, tu lhe pedirias, e ele te daria água viva.
11 Disse-lhe a mulher: Senhor, tu não tens com que a tirar, e o poço é fundo: onde pois tens a água viva?
12 És tu maior do que o nosso pai Jacob, que nos deu o poço, bebendo ele próprio dele, e os seus filhos e o seu gado?
13 Jesus , respondeu, e disse-lhe: Qualquer que beber desta água tornará a ter sede;
14 Mas aquele, que beber da água que eu lhe der nunca terá sede, porque a água que eu lhe der se fará nele uma fonte de água que salte para a vida eterna:

Milhares
de pobres hindus viajam anualmente algumas centenas de quilômetros em
peregrinações até às fontes do Rio Ganges. Consideram sua nascente como
sagrada. Levam semanas a fio para alcançar o seu destino no coração das montanhas
do Himalaia. Às vezes, são ludibriados pelo caminho. Outras, perdem o
trem, ou tomam o trem errado. Muitos dos peregrinos morrem de fome ou frio pela
estrada. Embora tudo pareça estar contrariando-os na viagem, o seu propósito
permanece firme – alcançar a nascente do Ganges.
Que
desperdício de força espiritual! Estes devotos não sabem o que adoram. Se ao
menos a sua devoção e o seu esforço pudessem ser dirigidos à Fonte da
verdadeira “água viva”, que vida nova não teria a Índia. Cristo é a Fonte Viva.
Se alguém beber deste manancial, nunca mais terá sede.

3 Dejó á Judea, y fuése otra vez á Galilea.
4 Y era menester que pasase por Samaria.
5 Vino, pues, á una ciudad de Samaria que se llamaba Sichâr, junto á la heredad que Jacob dió á José su hijo.
6 Y estaba allí la fuente de Jacob. Pues Jesús, cansado del camino, así se sentó á la fuente. Era como la hora de sexta.
7 Vino una mujer de Samaria á sacar agua: y Jesús le dice: Dame de beber.
8 (Porque sus discípulos habían ido á la ciudad á comprar de comer.)
9 Y la mujer Samaritana le dice: ¿Cómo tú, siendo Judío, me pides á mí de beber, que soy mujer Samaritana? porque los Judíos no se tratan con los Samaritanos.
10 Respondió Jesús y díjole: Si conocieses el don de Dios, y quién es el que te dice: Dame de beber: tú pedirías de él, y él te daría agua viva.
11 La mujer le dice: Señor, no tienes con qué sacar la, y el pozo es hondo: ¿de dónde, pues, tienes el agua viva?
12 ¿Eres tú mayor que nuestro padre Jacob, que nos dió este pozo, del cual él bebió, y sus hijos, y sus ganados?
13 Respondió Jesús y díjole: Cualquiera que bebiere de esta agua, volverá á tener sed;
14 Mas el que bebiere del agua que yo le daré, para siempre no tendrá sed: mas el agua que yo le daré, será en él una fuente de agua que salte para vida eterna.

11 The woman saith unto him, Sir, thou hast nothing to draw with, and the well is deep: from whence then hast thou that living water?
12 Art thou greater than our father Jacob, which gave us the well, and drank thereof himself, and his children, and his cattle?
13 Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:
14 But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.
